About Joe

Joe St. John is a proven leader, fiscal steward, and community builder who believes local government works best when it is responsible, transparent, and focused on results.

Joe currently serves as Mayor of the City of Sunbury, one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Ohio. As Mayor, he led the village of Sunbury to City status in the middle of the pandemic while improving upon it’s financial position, investing in critical infrastructure, and preserving the small-town character that residents value. His leadership has emphasized a simple but powerful principle: smart growth should pay for itself, reducing the tax burden on its residents.

Beyond local government, Joe brings deep private-sector financial experience. He works full-time in the banking and financial services industry, where he leads complex enterprise programs, manages large budgets, mitigates risk, and ensures accountability across organizations. This real-world financial expertise gives Joe a clear understanding of budgets, debt, capital planning, and long-term fiscal sustainability—skills that are essential for effective county leadership.

As Mayor, Joe has been directly involved in:

Large-scale infrastructure planning for roads, utilities, and public facilities

Public-private partnerships that support economic development while protecting taxpayers

Collaborative regional efforts with townships, neighboring communities, county leaders, state and federal partners

Joe understands that the County Commissioner role is not about politics—it’s about sound management, collaboration, and service. County Commissioners are responsible for overseeing major budgets, public services, infrastructure investment, and economic development that impact every resident, city, township, and business in the county. Joe’s background uniquely prepares him for that responsibility.

Just as important, Joe is a husband, father, and lifelong Ohioan who believes public service is about leaving things better than you found them. He values safe communities, strong schools, responsible growth, and a government that respects the people it serves.

Joe St. John is running for County Commissioner to bring experienced leadership, financial discipline, and a steady hand to county government—so our community can continue to grow, prosper, and remain a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Joe in his own words..

Hi, I’m Joe St. John. I grew up in a small town where hard work wasn’t optional. My dad and brother are coal miners, one grandfather was a pastor, the other worked in an aluminum plant. Those are the values that shaped me: faith, service, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

I carried that work ethic into the private sector; leading teams in logistics and banking operations; and in 2022 I was honored to be named one of Columbus Business First’s 40 Under 40.

As Mayor of Sunbury, the fastest-growing city in the fastest-growing county in Ohio, I’ve delivered real results: the Sunbury Parkway Interchange, major infrastructure and wastewater investments, long-term financial planning, and public-private partnerships that brought responsible growth and new opportunity.

Now I’m running for County Commissioner because Delaware County is at a crossroads. We can either shape our future or get pushed around by growth we didn’t plan for. I’m committed to keeping taxes low, supporting law enforcement with the technology and tools they deserve, protecting our quality of life, and making sure smart growth pays for itself—not our families.

I’m Joe St. John, and I’m ready to work for every corner of Delaware County.
